OSCS(SW) Michael Thomas Ellis, Jr. started his 22-year Career in the United States Navy in December 1963. After successfully completing boot camp and Operational Specialist “A” school he reported aboard his first Command, the USS Speigel Grove LSD-32. His last Command was at FCTCLANT Dam Neck Va. where he retired from in January 1985. During his career he earned the following awards; National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (3 awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Navy “E” Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal (5 awards), Navy Master Training Specialist Certification.
Senior Chief Ellis was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and was a post Commander of the American Legion Post 126 in Hertford, NC.
