HOTH Mission
CPL Derrick Sharpe
Durham, North Carolina
- September 17, 2022
About the Mission:
Key Ceremony event that Homes For Our Troops will be having on Saturday, September 17th. I am excited to announce that Homes for Our Troops is building a specially adapted custom home in Durham, NC for Marine Corporal (Cpl) Derrick Sharpe. Marine Cpl Derrick Sharpe was injured on his first deployment to Iraq in 2006 when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED). Derrick lost his right leg at the hip; sustained multiple fractures in his back, severe internal injuries, and a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Because his injuries were so severe, Derrick was immediately transported to Landstuhl, Germany, where his family met him to say their goodbyes, as doctors did not expect him to live. Derrick beat the odds and woke up nine months later at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Since then, he has endured more than 120 surgeries and will have more in the future.
We would absolutely love to have the NC Patriot Guard Riders participate in our escort for the veteran!
This event marks that the home is officially move-in ready and Homes For Our Troops presents the Veteran with the keys to their specially adapted custom home.
