Cpl. Othar Lee “Woody” Wood, served our Country Honorably in the United States Marine Corps.
He served two tours in Korea and earned the Korean Service Medal (w/2 bronze stars), United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal.
He was a man of unwavering faith, served as an Usher and a Deacon at Memorial Baptist Church for over 35 remarkable years. Woody's remarkable life is a testament to his unwavering faith, musical fervor, and selfless dedication to his community.
Woody was the lead singer in his band called the Buckaroos. His captivating voice and love for music brought joy to all who had the pleasure of listening. He played a pivotal role in establishing the little league Cougar Cubs Football and Cheerleading, transforming a mere concept into a thriving reality. Woody was a coach at South West Edgecombe, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless aspiring young people. While Woody's profession involved traversing the open roads as a truck driver, he possessed a remarkable ability to find the silver lining in every situation.

We will conduct our brief at 1145, and set the Flag line for the arrival of Family and Friends as they come to pay their final respects to Woody. We will maintain the flag line until the start of the Celebration of Life. At that time we will stand down the flag line and prepare to escort Woody and his family to his Final Resting Place in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in the Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
