Robert "Bud" Overby spent 31 years in the military in some fashion. He served in the Marine Corps in both active and reserve for 6 years. He served in the Coast Guard (Reserve) for 2 years and he served 23 years in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. He was a combat Veteran, Military Policeman and Recruiter retiring at the rank of First Sergeant. During his reserve years he was also a Police Officer in numerous police departments obtaining the rank of Chief of Police in Bridgeton NC. Robert retired from the ease of the military in 2012, completed his Bachelor of Arts (Magna Cum Laude) Degree and began teaching JROTC at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, NC.
His Awards include: Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/20 Year Device Silver Hourglass, Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (4), Army Good Conduct (5), USMC Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal W/3 Bronze Service Stars, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Master Recruiter Badge, Career Counselor Badge. Instructions:
We will stage at the Elks Lodge and depart to the Church for the visitation and celebration of life. Upon arrival at the church we will dismount and stand a flag line for the entry of guests. We will stand down at the beginning of the celebration of life and move across the road to a small park for Military Honors.
Bud was a member of the Blue Knights, the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association and NCPG.
The Blue Knights will take the lead on the escort. NCPG will be coordinating parking at the Elks Lodge and assisting where needed. Due to the number of riders expected and the traffic conditions in the area the Ride CPT in charge will release PGR members to the church prior to the family departing; where PGR will be ready to stand a flag line for the escorts approach.
Visitation is from 1:30 until 3:45 PM prior to the service at 4:00 PM, Plan for a long day.
