With a saddened and heavy heart, we submit this Mission Order for NCPGR State Captain Richard Burlin Jewell.
Sgt. Richard Burlin Jewell, United States Army, served our Country Honorably in the late 1960s. He completed a tour of duty in Vietnam as a Radio Operator, not the safest job on the market.
After returning to the States and getting his Honorable Discharge he attended school and got his degree. During the course of his years, he worked hand in hand along side U.S.A.F. personnel in Saudi Arabia and other places in the Middle East.
In additional to his sense of Humor, Richard will be known best for his role as State Captain of the North Carolina Patriot Guard Riders. He took over that duty after receiving a phone call late one night informing him of the position by PGR National, after his predecessor had stepped down. He was always Honored to be a PGR member, but this was his greatest reward. He hit the ground running and worked to bring the NCPGR into alignment with the National guidelines.
Unfortunately, Richard did not leave Vietnam alone. He brought some of it home with him in the form of Agent Orange related illness. His life was cut short by those effects.
We will gather at the Funeral Home and set the Flag Line for the arrival of friends and family for the viewing portion of Richard’s Service. This will be a 2-hour visitation period. We will do a rotational flag line to allow everyone that wishes to, to visit the family during this period.
After the visitation period we will mount up and escort Richard, his family and friends to the cemetery for the internment service.
Military Honors will be performed at the cemetery.
A group of riders will be selected at the Funeral Home to proceed to the family home and escort them back to the Funeral Home.
